History Series Airing on National Greek Television

On October 2020 Season 1 of the History Documentary Series for which I worked as a Sound Designer was released in the Vouli Channel of the National Greek Television. The Series is named “Μικρά Μαθήματα για έναν Μεγάλο Κόσμο” (Small Lessons for a Big World) and is presented by Professor Maria Efthimiou of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens. Due to the success of this project I was given the option to continue working for the entire series. I am currently working on season 2. The series will be airing with a new episode every Saturday at 6:00pm which will then be repeated every next Friday at 8:00pm (GMT +3)

Participated During the Shootings of a Short-Length Movie

I attended the shootings of a short film. The director Penny Vagiou is a film-school student and has asked my to assist her with the Audio Post Production of her first film. She wrote her own script and together with other people from her course they shot the film over an entire week in the middle of September. Luckily the shootings were not affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. During my visit I met with the sound engineer of the film Chris Douris who was responsible for the live recording of the sound. We discussed about the each others responsibilities and how we are going to split the workload during post production. Thankfully everything went well and I am currently waiting for he final cut to start the working on the Audio Post Production.

Natural Sounds – Free Sound Library

While working as a sound designer, I started compiling a sound library of my own intended for my personal work. I then decided to share this library with other people in the creative industry. I used the Zoom H5 Handy Recorder to capture multiple sounds at 48kHz, 16-bit which I subsequently edited further using Cubase Pro 10.5.

This library consists of 30 sound files. I recorded these sounds while hiking and travelling around Greece. The library focuses on sounds that can be found in nature away from cities and modern society. This library can be found and download for free in the section named Sound Library of my website.

Audio Post Production For a Promotional Video

During August I mainly took a break from work. As soon as I came back from holiday, the the final cut of the promotional video for Sakkoulas Online that I worked on in July was completed and all that was left prior to its release, was the audio post production. This was a simple project as the 8-minute long video consisted of 4 interviews and just a little bit of music in the introduction of the video. Chris Sakellariou did an excellent job during the shooting by recording high quality audio. Then, all that was needed was to edit separately the voice of the 4 speakers, adjust levels, remove background noise and add appropriate ambiance. The final video can be found below:

Guitar Playthrough – Overecliff

While keeping busy with other projects I always find the time to practice guitar as well as work on my music production skills. This time I decided to prepare a guitar playthrough of my old band Overcliff. I attempted to record guitars using a DI signal and reamp them through my Randall RX120D amplifier. For the drums SSD5 was used to improve the quality of my mix. The song preformed was Disintegration of an Erased Cosmogenesis by Overcliff.

Technical Assistant for Promotional Video Shootings -Sakkoulas Online

Shortly after returning from the Island of Santorini I worked as technical assistant during the shootings of a promotional video for Sakkoulas Publication promoting their digital bibliography in the platform Sakkoulas Online. The video was directed by Maria Douza and the live sound was recorded by Chris Sakellariou. The shootings took place in 4 different locations in Athens, Greece and lasted for two days (7 – 8th of July). As part of this project I assisted the crew with all the different responsibilities during the shootings. Once the video is ready, I will be doing audio post production before its release.

Business Trip to the Island of Santorini – Virtual Diver

The island of Santorini is known to be one of the worlds most popular destinations ofor summer vacations, with millions of tourists visiting every year. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic hitting Europe during Spring 2020 the island was expected to be exceptionally quiet, while flights from abroad were only available from July onward. This gave us an excellent opportunity to visit the island in the end of June to shoot some 360-Videos and drone shots as part of Virtual Diver. I went along in order to record some ambiance using my Zoom H5 recorder from the real locations where the shootings were taking place. In addition to that I assisted the rest of the team with the technical work of the shootings. It was a wonderful experience working in such a magnificent place while also getting to visit some of the islands popular sights.

Purchased Zoom H5 Handy Recorded

I have been working as a Sound Designer for over a month. During this time I have been using real time recorded audio from the shootings of the videos together with free sound effects mainly taken from Freesound. While the projects I am currently working on will require a large variety of sounds, I decided to purchase a portable field recorder. I bought the Zoom H5 Handy Recorder which on its own contains an XY-pair of stereo microphones as well as 2 more inputs for other additional microphones. Since I am a big fan of hiking and mountain climbing, I will be using this recorder to obtain ambiance from different places across Greece aiming to create a Sound Library of my own to use for all of my projects.

New Audio Related Project – Virtual Diver

Virtual Diver is an innovative research project created by a consortium of IT companies under the supervision of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The application is designed and developed as a complex digital and interactive platform, which, in its final form, will offer the opportunity to virtually tour the island of Santorini utilising 360-Video, and techniques of Virtual and Augmented Reality. The final product will be available for different devices such as tablets, phones, virtual reality headsets, etc. For this project I will be to do the Sound Design and perform Ambisonic Mixing for several clips recorded at the island using 360-Video Cameras. I am very excited to be part of such a unique project.

New Sound Design Project for the National Greek Television

I have been given the chance to work as the Sound Designer for a history series titled “Small Lessons for a Big World” based on the lectures of Athens University Professor Maria Efhimiou. The production company Steficon assigned me the first season of the series which will be soon broadcast at the Vouli Channel of the National Greek Television. As part of this project I will be performing the complete audio post production, targeted towards improving the sound quality of the lectures, as well as mixing it with appropriate music, ambiance and sound effects. The complete series will consist of 54 hourly episodes and I will be working on the first 8 with a potential rolling contract.
